Lilian (Jodie Foster) is a reserved and detached psychiatrist whose routine is shattered when a long-term patient disappears and is soon found dead. The official ruling of suicide does not convince Lilian – she directs her suspicions toward the victim’s family and launches her own investigation. Assisted by her ex-husband (Daniel Auteuil) and influenced by the suggestions of a mysterious woman who puts her under hypnosis, Lilian falls into a trap of dangerous secrets and the tension between public image and private life. Rebecca Zlotowski creates an intriguing portrait of power and vulnerability in an era of constant surveillance, where the price of truth is staggeringly high.
